What I have learned...

A Prayer I Never Thought Would Be Answered!

Today in the S.F. Chronicle I read Joan Baez' endorsement of Barack Obama!

Many Obama supporters won't fully understand the extraordinary significance of this endorsement amidst all those coming in for Barack.

Joan's music provided the background and inspiration for much of the Civil Rights Movement and the anti-war movement of the 60's, 70's and beyond.

Throughout this era, she worked diligently and sacrificed greatly in confronting the powers in Washington politics and the mainstream media, and speaking for the most vulnerable around the world. She basically put her career on the backburner during the years when her talent, her energy and her voice were at a peak to instead become the voice of those who are seen as the least of us.

In endorsing a political candidate--Barack Obama--Ms. Baez did something she has NEVER done before, and pledged never to do!

Her proclamation of faith in his ability, integrity and authenticity is truly a joyous addition to the chorus of voices raised in support of the Senator from Illinois.

Joan marched with MLK Jr. She was at the Lincoln Memorial and sang before King's great speech. She has marched with Cesar Chavez and the farmworkers, and traveled the world to lift up those most in need.

Today, I am humbled and grateful that she has broken her longstanding pledge to stay out of the political arena, and chosen to SING OUT for BARACK OBAMA!

What is a leader?

First of all, can I just say: 'the Dixie Chicks RULE!!! Now that I got that out of the way...

Barak Obama blew onto the political stage at the 2004 Democratic convention with a powerful air of innate truth and dignity. Recalling the youth and idealism of JFK, the compassion and commitment to that idealism of Jimmy Carter, and a life story rivaling an epic realization of the American Dream...we believe again because Barak believes, and he's lived it.

I've finally come to understand that we cannot rely on a political leader to solve our problems, make our decisions or realize our dreams for us. It's up to us to participate, communicate and act on the things we believe are crucial to improving our lives and communities. But I've also learned that the leadership of our country affects so much of what is discussed and thought both within this country and around the world. The president has the ability to rally our support, educate and inform our opinions and hopefully, with wisdom, guide our actions.

We need truth, honesty, integrity and fairness again. We need BARAK OBAMA!
